What would a Dasher do when they found out that the offer they accepted is a large grocery order with heavy contents?
Sun, 12:35 pm. I was shocked! I did not anticipate it. I thought I was only going to do food orders, not grocery or wine and more. Or at least lightweight groceries. But this order should be categorized as heavyweight content. Not good for my hand condition, ganglion cyst. The lump may pop again and get larger.
Now, imagine lifting and carrying all that groceries by myself to the doorstep of the customer's place. I wonder, is it to a ground-level home or the third floor of an apartment? The good thing about this order was to drop it off on a ground-level doorstep. (As you can see from the pic.) But there were times on other grocery and wine and more orders when I had to lift and carry the groceries up and down the stairs with groceries on both hands to the third floor of an apartment. Literally.
Then, I thought about it. Amazon delivery people, FedEx, UPS, Post Office? They too had to deliver and carry boxes after boxes the whole day. Similar to the Dashers but Dashers only do it when they accepted a grocery offer. So it may not be a daily routine. But they can see the size of the boxes. Dashers only know the contents and quantity by face value when they pick up the order. This is not right, don't you think? Transparency is key. Dashers are independent contractors. Yes, Dashers use the food delivery platform. But No they are not working for them. At that time grocery offers, I didn't know there is an Opt-out program. (I will write about this in another post.)
So, after I dropped off the grocery to the customer, I called my Dasher Support about this experience. I was not happy. I reported my experience and give feedback to Dasher Support for them to record it. I told them that I should have the right to accept and decline without the punishment of a low Acceptance Rate. However, to those Dashers who find this large order of grocery offer suits their preference and ability, go for it! I must say, kudos to all delivery drivers! You people rock! Thank you for delivering my online orders to my place. I appreciate you.
